Applications - Case Study 3
Tunnel Provides A Controlled Environment
Belmar Engineering Services based in Scotland, recently found an innovative use for Owen Brown's retractable tunnel when they had a requirement to carry out UV black light work.
Belmar is one of Scotland's most advanced subcontract precision engineering workshops, servicing the oil and gas industries in the North Sea and worldwide.
On this occasion, the UV black lighting was required for large steel sub-sea valve blocks and needed to take place within a darkened controlled environment. Due to such a busy work schedule there was limited spare floor space within the workshop and the solution, therefore, needed to consume as little space as possible allowing the workshop to function at full capacity.
The solution? One of Belmar’s staff found the answer from a most unlikely source. Visiting Old Trafford one weekend, he saw a retractable folding tunnel being used to create additional protective cover for the players and referee between the changing rooms and the pitch.
Back at the workshop, and with some further investigation, it was discovered that Owen Brown supplied a range of retractable tunnels.
Andy Dingwall, Belmar’s Workshop Supervisor, immediately contacted Owen Brown and purchased a 2m wide by 3m long tunnel, with an eave height of 2.5m. The structure had an anodised aluminium frame and was covered in a dark green PVC coated polyester fabric.
Commenting on the success of their purchase, Andy Dingwall said “This has greatly helped with our UV black light work. As we don’t need to carry out this function all the time, the structure can be retracted, fitted neatly against the wall and out of the way when not in use and easily pulled into position when needed. It has fitted our requirements perfectly.”
